A different atmosphere graced the academic activities of the Faculty of Law at Muhammadiyah University of Cirebon (FH UMC) when Prof. Dr. Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata, S.H., M.Hum., not only delivered legal material but also shared stories from his life journey through music and inspirational anecdotes.

With the melody of the song “Heart Orchestra” From the music group Slank, while playing the guitar, Prof. Mukti delivered a profound message about commitment, responsibility, and promises that must be kept. The song served as an introduction that aligned with the material he presented on the importance of maintaining the integrity of judges and building trust in the judicial system.

For the academic community of FH UMC, that moment provided an opportunity to get to know another side of a legal figure who has had a dynamic life journey. Before becoming known as an academic and a leader of a state institution, Prof. Mukti once dreamed of being a musician. However, life's journey led him to the world of law and education.

Born into a family of academics, Prof. Mukti was initially steered towards other fields such as architecture. However, as time went on, he found his path as a legal academic. While pursuing his postgraduate studies at Diponegoro University, he began to delve into the world of law, eventually continuing his doctoral studies at the University of Indonesia and earning his Doctorate in Legal Sciences in 2009.

That long journey then led Prof. Mukti to the strategic position of Chairperson of the Judicial Commission for the 2021-2023 period. According to him, a position is not just an achievement, but a mandate that must be carried out with full responsibility.

In his presentation, Prof. Mukti explained that the Judicial Commission has an important role in maintaining the honor and integrity of judges. Judges, as parties who possess great authority in determining justice, must always uphold ethics, morality, and professionalism.

It assesses that the judiciary requires balance to remain in accordance with the principle of independence while having accountability. Therefore, the Judicial Commission exists as an institution that ensures the dignity of the judiciary is maintained.

Prof. Mukti also revealed that the judicial world still faces various challenges, such as potential intervention, unethical practices, and issues of public trust in legal institutions. To confront these challenges, synergy between various state institutions is needed so that the justice system remains strong and capable of delivering justice.

He affirmed that the Judicial Commission's duties are not only to supervise but also to support the capacity building of judges and to ensure that judges can carry out their duties professionally and with integrity.

Through this opportunity, Prof. Mukti hopes the public will increasingly trust the judicial institution. According to him, the honor of judges must be protected, the credibility of the judicial institution must be strengthened, and all parties must work together to ensure that the value of justice remains upheld.

The joint activity with the UMC Faculty of Law civitas was a valuable experience, not only academically but also as a lesson about life's journey, struggles, and the integrity of a legal professional. Prof. Mukti's journey demonstrates that every life process can lead someone to a significant role that benefits society.
